Where to go in 2025

Brasov, Romania (on National Geographic 2025 list)
With the opening of the new airport in Nuuk this November, new flight services will connect Greenland with Canada and the United States. In the past, one would have to go to Denmark or Iceland in order to go to Greenland on either Air Greenland or Icelandair. The flights to Nuuk from North America will make Greenland more accessible to travelers eager to experience new adventures in the biggest island in the world that is not a continent. Greenland is the choice of three travel publications and ezines linked below. With these endorsements, it is poised to be the hottest destination in 2025.

Fodor’s Go list 2025
Fodor’s describes its 25 destinations as “slightly off the beaten path and primed for new adventures”. Leon, Nicaragua and the Marquesas may not on the bucket list of many travelers but it’s time in the travel limelight has come. I’ve been thinking of Léon for several years. Maybe now’s the time to go. https://www.fodors.com/go-list/2025

Fodor’s NO list
This list is not meant to keep travelers from going to the places on the No List. Rather, it is an attempt to make travelers aware of the burden overtourism imposes on the people, culture, environment and local economy. As an example, Bali, Mount Everest and Kerala in India are inundated with plastic garbage. The residents of Barcelona protested last summer against tourist presence in their city and sprayed some tourists with water guns. Residents are complaining of a tight housing market because their apartments and houses have been converted to vacation rentals. In Tokyo and Kyoto, “tourist pollution” has raised the ire of locals who are feeling the pinch from rising costs, lack of manpower and overcrowding in public transportation and even on the trails on Mt. Fuji. https://www.fodors.com/news/news/fodors-no-list-2025
