The Epiphany Statue
Lake Ohrid is one of the oldest and deepest lakes in Europe. A little more than two thirds of it lies in North Macedonia and the rest in Albania. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979 and together with the city of Ohrid, it was given Natural and Cultural World Heritage Site status in 1980. Visitors are drawn to the lake for its expansive views, the historical sites of Ohrid situated above the lake and all the lakefront activities. You can catch a ferry from the main harbor to go to other towns around the lake.
There are many possibilities for lake cruising depending on your schedule. Some of the options include a boat trip to St. Naum Monastery and the Bay of Bones, a sunset cruise and a panoramic cruise with lunch. Signs are posted for times of departures at the harbor or check with local tour operators.
You may take this red submarine for a spin around the lake.
Found several stray dogs in Lake Ohrid. I think they love the weather here.
Hillside homes capture the beauty and serenity of the lake.
*****
There are many private boats at the harbor. It’s fun to take a stroll along the pier to get a nice perspective of the lake, the promenade and the city.
Orthodox Church of St. Sophia
A short walk from the harbor is the historical church of St. Sophia from the 11th century. You can read about it and Ohrid, the largest city on Lake Ohrid, here: https://www.travelswithcharie.com/2024/06/my-heartwarming-experiences-in-ohrid.html
The Bazaar
This street is full of shops where you can buy the famous Ohrid pearls and souvenirs.

There is a big park in front of the lake. You can sit here or at one of many lakefront restaurants and enjoy the views. Being by the water is both therapeutic and refreshing.

I took a private tour with Albania on tour with Eddy. As a solo traveler, it’s often difficult to reserve a tour for one person. There are group tours of major cities as well as hop on hop off tours that a single traveler can join but when you’re sightseeing outside the big cities, it has been my personal experience that tours are harder to secure and sometimes canceled after payment. I was glad a friend recommended Eddy to me and I was able to travel extensively and comfortably in Albania, North Macedonia and Kosovo. You may reach Eddy through WhatsApp 355 69 919 9085. Or contact him by email at edisonfejzulla1@gmail.com.
